Portfolio Guidelines

Option 1

  • Clearly label an A4 size folder with your name, AUT Student ID number, a contact phone number and the name of the qualification(s) you are applying for.

  • Use a digital camera to take photographs of your work, print them out and put them into the A4 folder. Do not include original work as you can always bring this to your interview, but do include working drawings where available.

Option 2

  • Clearly label a CD/DVD with your name, a contact phone number and the name of the qualification(s) you are applying for. Please ensure that your CD/DVD(s) are in a protective case as they are easily damaged.

Option 3 (Overseas applicants only)

  • We will accept jpg files by email where a domestic or international applicant is overseas at the time of application.

  • The email subject line should clearly identify your name, your AUT student ID number and the name of the qualification(s) you are applying for.

  • To obtain an AUT student ID number you will need to have enrolled online prior to sending your portfolio. Portfolios received by email without an AUT student ID number will not be reviewed.

In all cases, please include a short cover letter briefly outlining your background and achievements with your portfolio. This letter can be included on the CD/DVD/Email as a word or PDF document, or provided separately.

Content

  • The purpose of a portfolio is to demonstrate an in-depth exploration of ideas. Provide a selection of work which shows this. Be confident about the work you include if you consider it your best.

  • A maximum of 12-24 images is sufficient. Aim to include a range of media where this is available, i.e. drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, graphic design, etc.

  • Your first choice programme will be considered your preferred major of study and some part of your portfolio should reflect this preference.

  • Your second choice major, if shown on your application, will only be considered when entry has not been gained to the qualification of first choice.

Please ensure that you have enrolled online or submitted a hard copy application for enrolment form before submitting your portfolio.

When complete, please send your portfolio by the due date to:
