Art and Design Festival 2010 -

AD10

- a week long celebration of emerging design.

This year, AUT University’s School of Art + Design are launching the new AD10 (Art + Design) Festival. This is a fantastic opportunity to see, feel, touch and watch an amazing and varied array of student work.

The Festival will be open to the public and run for 5 days from the 11th to 14th of November 2010.  - with the AUT Rookie Fashion Show taking place on the 11 of November (8pm - Shed 12, Rhubarb Lane, 90 Wellesley St West).

AD10 will serve as a gathering place for artists, designers, current and prospective students, alumni, teaching staff, and of course, the general public.

The Festival will bring together student work from the seven disciplines that make up the School of Art + Design including, Digital, Fashion, Graphics, Product, Spatial, Textiles and Visual Arts.

A major feature of AD10 Festival will be its opening night, public talks, workshops, installations, performances and the infamous Rookie Fashion Show.

“The School has always held end of the year exhibitions in its own buildings and various other sites in Auckland - Aotea Center, Galatos, ST PAUL St Galleries, and St Pauls Church. The idea of a Festival is to go beyond just a series of separate student exhibitions and create a Festival celebrating the culture of the School and to bring together artists and designers to contribute to the cultural landscape of Auckland City.” says Head of School Ron Left.

In my empty house - Ruark Lewis with Loma Bridge
ST PAUL St Gallery One

Bricolage Disco - Wade Marynowsky
ST PAUL St Gallery Two

26 November – 23 December 2010
Opening: Thursday, November 25, 5:30 pm

ST PAUL St Gallery is pleased to present two exhibitions from Sydney based artists Ruark Lewis and Wade Marynowsky, exploring aspects and acts of accumulation and shedding, cluttering and decluttering.

In Gallery One, Lewis will present his new work In my empty house, made in collaboration with experimental filmmaker Loma Bridge. It explores the gradual emptying of internationally reknowned anthropologist Vivienne Kondos and her husband Alex’s a Paddington terrace house in preparation for sale, a process real estate agents call decluttering.

Across the foyer in Gallery Two, Wade Marynowsky’s work Bricolage Disco is activated by an opposing movement towards accumulation. Collecting obsolete technology, Marynowksy will create a choreography of machines, sound and light through the intervention of robotic technology. Marynowsky’s work straddles both theatre and 'live art' or 'performative media', causing technology to perform within a system set up for the work to unfold and evolve.

Ruark Lewis (born: 1960) is a visual artist and writer producing in a wide range of media such as painting, drawing, installation, artists-books, public art, theatre, performances, audio and video works. In 2006 he participated in the Biennale of Sydney and in 2007 at Carriageworks he presented The Babel Project, in collaboration with choreographer Alan Schacher.

Wade Marynowsky (born: 1974) is a hybrid media artist working across robotic, immersive and interactive installation, performance, music and video. In 2010 he has performed live at Super Delux@Artspace, Sydney, as part of the Biennale of Sydney and presented his work at the Mediations Biennale, Poznan, Poland.

ST PAUL St CoLab Artist in Residence.

Wade Marynowsky will undertake a residency at AUT University from 25 October to 25 November, 2010, supported by ST PAUL St and CoLab. Marynowsky will be working in the CoLab Interactive Suite (WT 501) to prepare his work.

In my empty house and Bricolage Disco are supported by the NSW Government, Australia through Arts NSW. In my empty house has received additional support from the Janet Holmes a Court Artists' grant, a NAVA initiative, made possible through the generous sponsorship of Mrs Janet Holmes a Court and through the support of the Visual Arts Board, Australia Council for the Arts. Bricolage Disco has received additional support from CoLab.

2011 AUT Summer Photography Workshop: Bruce Gilden and Todd Hido

14th - 16th January, 2011

ST PAUL St Gallery One

It is our pleasure to announce that Bruce Gilden and Todd Hido will be presenting the 2011 AUT Summer Photography Workshop at the ST PAUL St Gallery from 14th - 16th January, 2011.

Following in the footsteps of Antoine D'agata, Lewis Baltz, Alex Soth, John Gossage, Paul Graham and Rineke Dijkstra since 2005, this workshop is a not to be missed experience for the serious photographer.

Both are masters in their own areas, each with a unique vision and position for their work. Gilden's and Hido's work is conceptually and stylistically diametrically opposed and this alone will make for a compelling and entertaining learning experience for all who attend.

The AUT Summer Photography Workshop is organised by Harvey Benge and Neil Cameron
