“Look Answer Tell” is the first exhibition of the AUT Visual Arts Year Three Pilot Project for 2010. “Look Answer Tell” is an inter-disciplinary presentation of 7 students work, ranging through the mediums of Drawing, Photography, Painting, Video and Installation. The work involved spans different concepts, but the common thread is the idea of Escapism: whether from a physical form, a cultural habitation, the construct of a critical art world, even a metaphysical disconnection to reality. The concept of Escapism results in the invitation for exultant freedom and experience. The Artist as Magician. “Look Answer Tell” is an excerpt from a code Harry Houdini gave to his wife in case of his death. Audiences went to see Houdini succeed or fail, and despite that he rejoiced the wonder and amazement.
