World in Pieces
16 - 19 June, 2010
Gallery Three

Seven art students set out to make public their divergent visions of what it’s like to live in a society increasingly subject to an accelerated process of hyper capitalism. The market confronts us with an ever increasing range of choice, in every aspect of our lives from consumption to personal identities via social networking sites. New presentations of the self are literally just a click away; technology now connects us in myriad ways but also stokes an escalating fear of misrepresentation.

So it is in art as in life...the supermarket of choice is ever expanding. As artists we now know that anything can be employed as art, the art of art in the 21st century is now more than ever one of selection and filtering. Some of us have chosen mediums that are grounded in history, others, less well travelled ways of art making---in any case the levelling of choice is increasingly making such categories as cutting edge and traditional obsolete. From our particular piece of the world, our gaze upon the maelstrom,  we as artists grasp what feels most appropriate to our selves and hold it up for inspection; world in pieces reveals our choice.
