A 9D Design Collective Exhibition
Opening November 7, 2008 at 6pm
November 7 - 14, 2008
Gallery Three
9D is a group of nine designers intentionally harnessing the dynamics of a collective design environment, to encourage experimentation and to assist the individual to push past their creative boundaries. Their collective approach is intended to challenge the norm, to move away from the traditional model of the artist as an isolated individual.
9D believes that the New Zealand design industry needs to develop a greater sense of community and in order for it to diversify and attain a higher international profile, more designers need to work and exhibit outside the conventional commercial environment.
One of the central themes of their exhibition is diversity and in keeping with this, the collective will be presenting work employing a varied mix of technologies such as motif graphics, new and old printing technologies, web, sculptural installation and open source code interactive design. The exhibition will present work in unconventional ways so as to challenge the viewer and to engender reaction and discussion.
9D has rejected the contemporary notion that design begins with and is tied to computer technology. 9D is confronting these and other restrictions head on. 9D will be presenting an exhibition that consciously pushes the boundaries of how graphic design is presented and more importantly, experienced by the viewer.
9D is a collective of nine graphic design students currently studying in their third and undergraduate year.
