4 NAILS
Four Paintings by Julian Dashper and Simon Ingram
January 25 - February 11, 2006
Gallery two

A new exhibition of four paintings by Julian Dashper and Simon Ingram, one recent work by each artist and one each from 10 years ago.
4 Nails reflects on aspects of each artist’s practice over a 10 year time frame. The exhibition presents a compelling discussion about a particular approach to experimental abstract painting. This dialogue declares a primary interest in abstraction as a conceptual or philosophical model as opposed to the more popularly practised optical or purely aesthetic one.
Julian Dashper’s work is currently the subject of a 25 year touring retrospective in America, the first ever such exhibition for a resident New Zealand artist http://www.sheldonartgallery.org/
Simon Ingram, who has recently returned to live in New Zealand from Sydney, is well known to Auckland audiences through his regular exhibitions at Vavasour Godkin Gallery and his inclusion in the Chartwell Collection http://www.chartwell.org.nz/
Though Dashper and Ingram have participated in various group shows together in Australia and New Zealand, 4 Nails is the very first time their work will be seen in the context of a two person exhibition.
