Master of Arts Management

The Master of Arts Management (MArtsMgmt) is designed to produce creative managers with skills in business development, entrepreneurship, cultural management and creative practice. It equips you for careers in the creative industries and gives you a range of transferable skills in management, presentation and community development. The degree also provides an understanding of how the creative industries fit into the wider cultural and economic context.

Applicants will normally be selected on the basis of their level of academic achievement and may be required to attend a selection interview.

Entry requirements

In order to be admitted to the Master of Arts Management an applicant must have completed the following or equivalent:

(a) a four-year bachelor’s degree or
(b) a bachelor’s degree with honours or
(c) a postgraduate diploma.

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree plus a relevant professional qualification and/or professional experience, of an appropriate kind recognised by the University as equivalent to one year of advanced study, may also be considered.

An applicant must normally have completed the admission qualification in 1(a), (b) or (c) above with a B grade average or higher.

An applicant must demonstrate to the Dean (or representative) an ability to undertake study at postgraduate level in a related area.

  • Communication to artists, sponsors, government and the public
  • Budgeting
  • Delivering experiences through art and culture to institutions and the community.

MArtsMgmt is built around core papers with additional electives offering weekly classes, practical projects such as fieldwork or case studies, occasional weekend seminars, formal assignments and guest speakers. 

You will immerse yourself in contemporary theoretical readings, practise critical thinking, and be involved in external professional practice.

This programme would ideally suit you if you have a creative practice background or cultural industry experience.
