Master of Business Administration student

The Master of Business Administration is a great way to enhance your career, says Quynh Nguyen who came to AUT as an international student from Vietnam.

“My background is in marketing and brand management. I’ve been working as a brand manager for Unilever in Vietnam for more than six years, primarily looking after the Dove, Comfort and Sunlight brands. In this field you need to understand the full picture to make sound business decisions, and the MBA is a great way for me to broaden my understanding of other business aspects and further my career.

“I’m currently on a sabbatical from my role at Unilever, and my employer fully supports my decision to study here in New Zealand.”

Choosing AUT
It wasn’t hard to decide where to study, Quynh says.

“My husband studied at AUT a few years ago, completing a Bachelor of Business in Management and Marketing. He had enjoyed AUT’s practical approach and recommended AUT as a great place to study.”

The MBA is beautifully designed, she says.

“I love that at the end of the MBA, you can apply all your knowledge from the papers in your own applied business project. That’s fantastic. I still have a few more papers to complete first, but I’m planning to work on brand development in New Zealand.

“I also like that my lecturers don’t just cover the theory but also focus on real-life examples. Because the classes have a maximum of 20 students, it’s very easy to interact with the lecturers and your classmates.”

An international outlook
AUT is a very welcoming place for international students, Quynh says.

“I did a lot of research before I decided to come to AUT to study, and I didn’t see other universities that were as welcoming as AUT. You can see a lot of other international students around you here, and everyone has been so helpful, from the international student support team to the administrators for my programme. It’s a great environment for international students.”

AUT’s international outlook has been a highlight of Quynh’s studies.

“I have classmates from all over the world, as well as lecturers from Canada, China, India, Malaysia and many other countries. This international perspective is so important in today’s workplaces. At Unilever, I work with co-workers from different backgrounds and know how important it is to understand different cultures.”
