Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences

There is increasing demand for IT professionals with business acumen, says AUT computer and information sciences alumnus Alvian Tjhai.

“I would totally recommend this programme for those who are interested in combining IT and business.

“Studying at AUT gave me the chance to study in another country and broaden my knowledge. AUT is a highly ranked university, and located in New Zealand, a beautiful and safe country,” says Alvian who came to AUT as an international student from BINUS University in Indonesia.

Making new friends
Being able to exchange opinions about study experiences, travel and life in general was one of the highlights of his study, Alvian says.

“I learned so much from my time in New Zealand and my international friends. We shared the same goals and experiences – we supported each other through the pressure of exams and worked towards passing our papers. I enjoyed that a lot.

“Since this was my first time studying abroad, I could also practise my English skills everywhere I went – the train station, bus station, convenience store, student help desk and even the cinema. This really helped me improve my English.”

In his spare time, Alvian enjoyed AUT’s modern campus facilities and spent time with friends and classmates.

“The AUT City Campus is very modern and has advanced facilities. I enjoyed spending time there in my free time.”

Combining IT and with business
Since graduating last year, Alvian has returned to his native Indonesia where he now works as a marketing manager for PT. Talc Powder Industri.

“In this role, I serve as the company's contact person, and am responsible for establishing good connections with our business partners (mainly from China) and promoting the company through our website and other IT resources. My AUT degree has given me a solid foundation for this role, and I look forward to implementing more of what I have learnt at AUT here in my job,” Alvian says.

“I have learnt a lot about how to combine IT with business, and how information technology can help a company become the market leader. The skills I developed at AUT are good preparation for a career as a business or IT consultant, systems analyst or project manager.”
