Process

STEP ONE

Before you begin, make sure that you plan ahead and give yourself a realistic amount of time to prepare for your intended start date. It is a good idea to research the programmes of study you are interested in, what they involve, and what will be expected of you throughout your studies.  You can find a lot of good information in the International Prospectus.

We recommend applications are submitted AT LEAST two months prior to semester start date. Please click here to see whether you meet the University’s entry requirements.

STEP TWO

To study at AUT University, international students need to apply directly to the University through Registry Services, or through an AUT Registered Agent.

Applicants must complete the International Student Application Form, ensuring all sections are completed in full, and that the programme of choice and semester start date/intended intake is clearly indicated.

Please attach:

  • A certified copy of an English language test certificate if available (Academic IELTS, TOEFL or a recognised equivalent). Note: these results are valid for two years from the exam date and an updated result may be requested
  • Certified copies of all relevant academic documents (transcripts as well as the award certificate). If necessary, AN OFFICIAL translation of documents must also be provided
  • A certified copy of your birth certificate or passport
  • Evidence of relevant work experience (including references)
  • One passport-sized photograph

Cross-crediting/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

At AUT University the cross-crediting of previous study is called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). If you believe you are entitled to credit for your previous studies please complete the Recognition of Prior Learning form.

Tertiary study from New Zealand and/or an overseas qualification must be assessed as equivalent in content and standard to papers taught at AUT. An application for credit must include an official outline of the qualification studied as well as specific descriptions of programme content and individual papers studied as published by the institution. The application must be supported by certified copies of original documents. Please note: there may be a charge for assessment of RPL.

STEP THREE

If you are submitting your application from overseas for the upcoming semester it will take up to one week to assess. Post-graduate applications may take up to four weeks to assess. (These times are only a guide and may vary). You will receive an acknowledgement email/letter advising you when we receive your application and informing you of your student ID number.

STEP FOUR

Successful applicants will receive an Offer of Place letter, which will give advice on tuition fees, the enrolment fee, insurance fees, date of payment, methods of payment and a copy of the University’s refund policy.

To accept an Offer of Place, applicants must sign and date one copy of the Acceptance of Offer form and return it, with full payment of fees, by the due date.

Click here for more information on how to pay your fees.

STEP FIVE

When your fees have been received, a receipt will be issued. This must be presented to Immigration New Zealand with a copy of your Offer of Place in order to obtain a student permit/visa. Click here for help with applying for your student visa.
