Hostels and other student accommodation
Auckland has many independently-run hostels and other student accommodation, where students cook for themselves. Hostels provide your own bedroom but generally you have to share a bathroom.
Homestay accommodation
We do not recommend private homestay arrangements and ask that you carefully consider notices or flyers that you see around the campus and city. You would be advised to only seek homestay arrangements from a licensed company, such as Kiwi Homestay, who organise Kiwi families for you to stay with and ensure that the homestay arrangement is compliant with the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
Temporary/Short Term
While you look for suitable accommodation you may be need to stay in temporary accommodation first. AUT is not responsible for coordinating temporary accommodation. We recommend the following options. Please note: an ‘*’ indicates that we do not recommend the accommodation for long term because it is essentially backpacker accommodation and isn’t conducive to study.

Legal details
We advise that you read any contracts you may have to sign very carefully, especially if you only want temporary accommodation. In the past students have accidently signed on for a long-term stays and breaking the contract then proved difficult and expensive. You may like to consider using UniLodge, Scholar Apartments, St Pauls, Forte Apartments, Auckland Empire Apartments and Princeton since you can sign short-term leases at these residences.
