Undergraduate Leadership and Excellence Scholarship (Communication)

University education is about critical thinking, fresh ideas and new ways of doing things.

The purpose of this scholarship is to support students to study the Bachelor of Communication Studies at AUT University who can demonstrate one or more of the following;
-Academic excellence
-Leadership in the promotion of cross-cultural understanding
-Financial hardship


Selection criteria:

  • Applicants must be NZ citizens or permanent residents.
  • Applicants must be school leavers accepted onto the Bachelor of Communication Studies for full-time study.
  • Applicants who meet the criteria of academic excellence and can demonstrate a record of leadership in the promotion of cross cultural understanding will be given special consideration.
  • Applicants who can demonstrate financial hardship are also encouraged to apply with relevant information. All applications are treated as confidential.

General Information:

How do students apply?
Applicants must have completed an AUT Application for Enrolment (AFE). Application for this scholarship is through the AUT on-line scholarship application system from October. Applicants will request one reference statement from their secondary school or a community leader through the on-line system. Applicants will be asked to upload: A transcript of academic results in the current and preceding year e.g. NZQA Record of learning. A written statement of how they meet the criteria of the scholarship. A brief Curriculum Vitae.

Decision makers
Applicants will be considered by a selection panel from the School of Communication Studies.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
As soon as possible after the closing date.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other fees scholarship. The recipient may hold additional non-tuition fee based scholarships with the approval of the Head of Department and the Scholarships Office. The decision of the panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Additional information
The number of new scholarships to be awarded is determined annually. The scholarship provides a contribution towards the fees of $6,000 for one year of full-time study.
