New Zealand Government Scholarships - NZAID

The New Zealand Scholarships Programme - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade New Zealand (MFAT)

AUT hosts a large number of scholars under the New Zealand Scholarships Programme (formerly NZAID). The scholarships are made available to assist international students to study in New Zealand. Citizens from selected developing countries intending to undertake  tertiary level study in New Zealand are able to apply for these scholarships to study at AUT. A list of eligible countries is available from the MFAT website. Details about how to apply are also available from the MFAT website.

The purpose of MFAT’s scholarships schemes is to enhance the skills, training and knowledge of selected individuals and thereby build capacity to contribute to the sustainable development of key areas in their home country.

New Zealand Pacific Scholarships

New Zealand Pacific Scholarships (NZPS) recognise the very close personal, cultural, and economic ties that New Zealand enjoys with Pacific countries. A particular focus of NZPS is to increase the number of young students and high academic achievers studying in New Zealand and to build a new generation of Pacific leadership with strong links to New Zealand.

PhD applicants from the Pacific Island region are encouraged to also look at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee AUT Doctoral Scholarship. Full information is available from the AUT Scholarships Database.

New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships

The purpose of the New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships (NZRDS) is for Pacific island candidates to gain knowledge and skills in specific subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country.

New Zealand Development Scholarships

New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) give candidates from selected developing countries an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through study in specific subject areas which will assist in the development of their home country.

New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards

The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholar Awards (NZAS) recognise New Zealand’s close cultural, economic, and geographic ties with Southeast Asia.

Commonwealth Scholarships

New Zealand offers Commonwealth Scholarships to candidates from developing Commonwealth countries for postgraduate study (Master’s and PhD) in New Zealand .
