Unless you are a distance learning student, you will need to pay a Compulsory Student Services Fee, which helps AUT fund student services, and buildings and other facilities that you use.
The Compulsory Student Services Fee is made up of:
- Student services fee - $2.81 per academic credit point
Covers provision or subsidy of various services that students access.
- Building levy - $0.48 per academic credit point
Covers maintenance, restoration and development of student facilities and buildings.
Why AUT charges students a services and building levy
We used to fund these services through your tuition fees. However, on their own, these are no longer sufficient to fund student services and facilities, on top of the costs of providing high quality teaching. The Government has indicated that it will not be boosting investment in the university sector in the future, so our only option is to ask students to help cover the costs of the services they use.
Services, building facilities and other items the compulsory student services fee pays for
- Extending library hours
- Increasing wireless access across AUT’s campuses
- No increase in student fares for the City to North Shore Campus shuttle bus until the end of 2012
- Building a student recreation centre on, or near to, the City Campus by 2015
- Providing at least $40,000 per year for AUT’s student business mentoring programme
