Disabled Students and Deaf Students

If you live with the effects of long term illness, significant injury or disability, please indicate this fact on your application. By providing this information, you help us improve our services. Following are the categories you’ll see on the application as well as a description of each.

  • Deaf - People who self-identify as Deaf. These are usually people who use NZSL.
  • Hearing impairment - Any degree of hearing loss. Usually students who do not use NZSL.
  • Blind - People who self-identify as blind.
  • Vision impairment - People who self-identify as vision impaired.
  • Specific learning disability - Includes for example dyslexia (impaired reading abilities), dysgraphia (impaired writing abilities), dyscalculia (impaired mathematical abilities) and all other specific learning disabilities.
  • Medical - Includes for example asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neurological and all other medical impairments.
  • Head injury - People who have experienced head injury involving loss of consciousness, such as traumatic brain injury or acquired brain injury.
  • Mental health - Psychological or psychiatric impairments.
  • Mobility/physical - People with physical and/or mobility impairments.
  • Speech impairment - Includes speech impairments and speech disorders.
  • Temporary impairment - Includes temporary impairment or injury that is expected to last less than 6 months.
  • Other disability - If you highlight this box, please specify the disability by filling in the text box.
