He is the Founding Director and Chief Scientist of the Knowledge Engineering and Discovery Research Institute KEDRI (www.kedri.info)and a co-founder of the Pacific Edge Biotechnology Ltd PEBL(www.pebl.co.nz). Previously he held positions of Professor at the Univ. Otago, Sen.Lecturer at the Univ.Essex (UK), Assoc.Prof. at the Techn.Univ.Sofia (Bulgaria), Visiting Prof. at the Techn.Uni.Kaiserslautern (Germany) and Uni.Trento (Italy), visiting scientist at UC Berkeley and RIKEN BSI, Japan, at the Techn. Univ. of Delft and Univ. of Mastricht, The Netherlands. He has published more than 400 papers, books and patents in knowledge engineering, intelligent systems, neural and fuzzy systems, bioinformatics and neuroinformatics, speech and image processing.
