Fashioning a reputation

AUT's Rookie show has made it into the official NZ Fashion Week schedule

AUT's “Rookie” show has official status in the New Zealand Fashion Week schedule for the first time this year.

Announcing the line-up for the 2005 New Zealand Fashion Week, managing director Pieter Stewart stressed the importance of new talent and welcomed AUT back to the premium fashion event for the third year running.

“Our buyers around the world have made it clear that while they want to see quality and consistency from all our designers, they want to see fresh, new talent too.”

AUT’s fashion and design students are the only students invited to have their own show. This year’s show directly slot before established fashion label Karen Walker is a sign of the Rookie show’s developing reputation.

Each year the production of Rookie has become more sophisticated and professional, but key to its popularity is the untapped talent and imaginative new designs that it showcases.

This year’s Rookie line-up, which encompasses apparel, knitwear and costume ranges from third-year design students, illustrates mature design concepts.Inspiration for the collections range from Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds to turn-of-the-century men’s work wear.

Fashion Week is being held from October 18 to 21 at Auckland's Viaduct Harbour.
