Professor Peter McNair. Prof Peter McNair, PhD, Director of the PRRC

Peter is the Director of the Physical Rehabilitation Research Centre and a Professor in the School of Physiotherapy. He was a founding member of the Centre with a background in sports physiotherapy and clinical biomechanics. His research interests involve viscoelasticity of soft tissues and functional performance following injury or disease. His recent research has focused upon the effects of osteoarthritis on knee joint function. Peter is currently undertaking studies involving magnetic resonance imaging of articular cartilage and the effect of disuse on muscle activation patterns during various physical tasks. Peter currently sits on the Editorial Boards of the international journals Clinical Biomechanics, the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport and Physical Therapy in Sports. He also reviews papers prior to publication for a number of international journals.

Grant Mawston. Grant Mawston, PGDHSc(Manip Physiotherapy), BPhEd, BPhysio

Grant is a Lecturer in the School of Physiotherapy and the research officer in the Physical Rehabilitation Research Centre. Prior to joining the Centre, Grant worked in musculoskeletal physiotherapy with a special nterest in sports injuries. He has worked with many sports teams over the years including Waikato Soccer and is currently the physiotherapist for New Zealand Gymnastics. Grant is completing his PhD investigating the kinematic and electromyographic responses to sudden loading and the effects of fatigue. Grant’s other research interests include the electromyographic and biomechanical changes that occur during repetitive lifting and the use of wavelet analysis of electromyographic signals. Recent projects have included video and power output analysis in elite kayakers. Grant maintains an active role in clinical practice.

Dr Wayne Hing. Dr Wayne Hing PhD (UoA), MSc(Hons), ADP(OMT), Dip MT (NZMPA), Dip Phys, MNZCP

Wayne is a Principal Lecturer at the School of Physiotherapy and a researcher in the Physical Rehabilitation Research Centre. Wayne has worked in musculoskeletal physiotherapy throughout his time at AUT. He has a special interest in sports injuries and he has worked with many sports teams. Wayne is currently the physiotherapist for the New Zealand Mens Hockey team. His research areas include musculoskeletal sonography, articular cartilage physiology, connective tissue pathology, spinal manipulative techniques and vertibrobasilar insufficiency. His recent studies include investigations into the effect of head position on neck vessel blood flow and the acute management of soft tissue injury at the ankle joint. Wayne currently sits on the Editorial Boards of the international journals Manual Therapy and the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy. He is also a member of the Academic Board of the New Zealand College of Physiotherapy.

Dr Mark Boocock. Dr Mark Boocock , PhD, MSc, BA(Hons), MErgS, EurErg

Mark is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Physiotherapy and researcher in the Physical Rehabilitation and Research Centre. He recently joined Auckland University of Technology from the Health and Safety Laboratory in the UK where he worked as a senior research scientist in the field of ergonomics. Mark’s research interests include the assessment of work-related musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomics interventions, with particular focus on spinal biomechanics. His recent studies include investigations into the effects of workplace risk factors on human physical performance parameters and the risk of injuries related to pushing and pulling tasks. Mark also maintains an active role in the development of International and European Safety Standards in manual handling, human physical strength and working postures. He is also a committee member of the New Zealand Ergonomics Society (NZES).

Dr Denise Taylor. Dr Denise Taylor, PhD, MSc (Rehabilitation), Grad Dip Phys

Denise is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Physiotherapy and a researcher in the Physical Rehabilitation Research Centre. Denise began her academic career at Loughborough University in the UK, followed by five years at the University of Otago,Dunedin, before moving to Auckland University of Technology. Denise's physiotherapy background is in neurological rehabilitation. Her research interests include motor control and motor performance in olderadults and neurologically impaired individuals. Recent research has included muscle activation patterns and movement patterns during functional reaching tasks in people following stroke. She is also undertaking studies investigating the prevention of falls in the elderly.
