Courses are taught in an interdisciplinary environment, and students have the opportunity of working alongside colleagues from other health care specialties. Staff in the division collaborate closely with health care providers and each discipline is able to offer students a comprehensive range of clinical experience as part of their degree.
This School of Health Care Practice incorporates the disciplines of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic. The Division also provides courses in Emergency Management and education for pharmacy technicians.
National and international experiences are available in the final year of these courses. Partnerships with health care providers ensure that learning is relevant and up to date, and that graduates acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to meet the needs of clients and community. In addition, through its teaching and research activities, the School has strong national and international links.
Nursing a three-year undergraduate nursing programme leads to the BHSc (Nursing) and registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Midwifery offers direct entry to a three-year undergraduate programme leading to a BHSc (Midwifery) and registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. The BHSc in Paramedic is the first of its kind in New Zealand through which students may gain a degree in this exciting health care field.
Several postgraduate papers are offered toward the Master of Health Science, as well as postgraduate certificates and diplomas to advance graduates' clinical practice. One such qualification is the MHSc (Advanced Nursing Practice) as preparation for the Nurse Practitioner role. A PhD and a professional doctorate qualification (DHSc) are also available. |
