IRASR has an active research and development program. Current projects include:
- Cooperation with international radio astronomy institutes to perform Very Long Baseline Interferometry
- Contributing to the Geoscience outputs produced by the International VLBI Service
- Investigating technology options for the proposed Square Kilometre Array
