Submission guidelines

The Working Papers editors welcome submissions from scholars within AUT as well as from national and international institutions at any time.

As papers are added to the site on a regular basis and not within strict deadline requirements, unless a special theme issue is sought.

The research initiatives of the Institute of Culture, Discourse and Communication are broad including areas such as:

  • Language-based research in linguistics and discourse analysis
  • Visual-based research in art and design; social sciences
  • Land research in communications studies, both in terms of the political economy of media ownership and control, and research in emerging technologies of communication. 
Papers are encouraged from beginner scholars, those wishing to put forward a draft of a paper for scrutiny and comment, or scholars wishing to adopt a speculative or experimental engagement with a paper.

Paper requirements

Papers between 3000 and 5000 words, with an abstract of up to 200 words, should be submitted by email with a cover letter providing author details and contact email address to philippa.smith@aut.ac.nz.

Papers must be written in English, double spaced in Times New Roman, size 12 font and referencing should follow the APA method


Submissions are peer reviewed internally before papers appear on the site and external comments are welcomed via the editor.

Interpretations, findings and conclusions in papers are expressly those of the authors and do not necessarily represent those of the editor or editorial board of Working Papers in Culture, Discourse and Communication.
