Annette Watkins

Biography:

Annette Watkins is a Senior Lecturer in English in the Certificate in English Language, in the School of Languages and Social Sciences where she has been working for over twenty five years. She has a wide experience in teaching English to migrant and refugees in Foundation programmes at all levels as well as Academic English for business, art and design, engineering, sport and recreation and health science students. She has also tutored students for Te Tari Awhina the learning support centre.  Annette has written two vocabulary workbooks used by a wide number of schools across the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors.

Annette's research interests include vocabulary learning, reading and learning to learn. "I started out in the 1980s when linguistics was a new field at Auckland University and have recently switched paradigms taking a COP paper in current issues in adult literacy education in AUTs MAdLitNumEd. So learning how to teach is part of life-long learning.

"My networking interests have brought me into touch with community initiatives for migrant and refugee settlement particularly on the North Shore."
