Biography:

Hayden McRobbie has extensive international experience in smoking cessation research, teaching and training, planning, policy and implementation and treatment.  Hayden is widely published and has contributed to numerous national and international expert bodies, committees and conferences.

Hayden is a Medical Practitioner and is based both in London, where he holds a Senior Clinical Research Fellow post at Queen Mary University of London, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and in New Zealand, where he is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health and Psychosocial Studies, Auckland University of Technology.

Dr McRobbie is a lead author of the New Zealand Smoking Cessation Guidelines and the “ABC” approach to smoking cessation, which he is helping to implement within New Zealand healthcare settings. When in the UK Hayden works as a Senior Clinician in the NHS Stop Smoking Services, in a deprived part of London, where he specialises in group based smoking cessation treatment. He is also involved in training healthcare professionals in smoking cessation.  Hayden continues to contribute to numerous expert bodies, committees, working groups and conferences. He currently provides advice on smoking cessation treatment and policy to the New Zealand Ministry of Health and the UK Department of Health.

Dr McRobbie’s research interests are in the treatment of tobacco dependence and he is developing a focus on the “hard to treat” smoker.  He is Assistant Editor of Nicotine and Tobacco Research, Deputy Editor of the Journal of Smoking Cessation, a member of the Society for Research of Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) and Vice President of the Association for the Treatmemnt of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD).
