Forum to meet on the future of communication networks

There are now few places in the world that don’t have access to the global communications infrastructure but quality of access, conflicting technologies and ease of connectivity continue to be issues.

With the theme ‘Empowering global connectivity’, APCC 2010 and ATNAC 2010 are forums aimed at researchers and engineers in the Asia Pacific region to present and discuss advances in information and communication technologies. Professor Adnan Al-Anbuky, professor of electrical and electronic engineering, is chair of both conferences.
A highlight for attendees will be hearing about the latest test beds and experimental facilities for wireless sensor networks in Europe. Dr Stefan Fischer, from the University of Lubeck, Germany will pass on his experience as part of the WISEBED, a European project which is creating a wireless sensor test bed by building a federation of several existing physical sensor networks throughout the world.
There will also be presentations on Japan’s NTT next-generation network, elastic optical paths and ways of improving network performances, the Australian NICTA experience with broadband, and a discussion on the issue of broadband-wireless co-existence.
The conference which will be held at the Langham Hotel, Auckland from October 31st to November 3rd. The event features 31 break out specialised sessions, three tutorial sessions, 10 invited speakers and one panel session on the future of the Internet.
Immediately following the conference, on November 4th, is a seminar convened by the Ministry of Economic Development on Future Wireless Technologies – including Cognitive Radio, Software Defined Radio and Future Mobile and Broadcast Technologies.
The purpose of this event is to share knowledge amongst participants about emerging developments and identifying the areas on which to focus future technical and regulatory work.
