never2old exercise programme

Our never2old exercise programme is for people aged 60 and over.

We will guide your exercise experience with a programme to cater for your individual needs. We offer:

  • Exercise sessions: gym-based programme plus optional group classes
  • Sports events and team games like indoor bowls, table tennis and badminton
  • Seminars on topics like nutrition, fall prevention, safety in the home and pelvic floor dysfunction.

We assess your fitness and help you set goals

Before you start your training programme with never2old, we’ll gather information about your current health, your personal fitness goals and your physical constitution. We’ll do this using health questionnaires and functional assessments which measure things like your strength, flexibility and balance.

These assessments are useful for tracking your progress and setting goals.

We offer daily never2old sessions in our weights room. During each one-hour session, you’ll complete your individualised exercise programme. You can also take part in optional group exercise classes and activities during your session.

Your exercise programme

The intensity and difficulty levels of each programme are adjusted to your ability. We show you each exercise and give you advice and help during the session.

Exercises focus on:

  • Resistance training: to improve muscle mass, strength and functional fitness – keeping you fit to carry out everyday activities
  • Balance exercises: to help you avoid falls, improve your gait and give you confidence in daily and routine activities
  • Flexibility training: to increase your joints’ range of motion, and help balance and mobility
  • Cardio training: to maintain efficient heart and lung function for any sustained activity.

Group exercise classes

All 9.30am group exercise class sessions begin with a group warm up. You can then choose to take part in the group exercise classes, or continue your own training programme or join other group activities that may be happening. For an up to date schedule please ask at our reception.

Our group exercise classes are optional and run throughout the main session, these include:

Strength & Balance
This class focuses on improving overall body strength and stability and reducing the risk of falls or injuries. This class combines exercises that target various muscle groups, emphasising those involved in balance and stability. It incorporates strength training movements such as squats, lunges, deadlifts, upper body exercises, balance-specific exercises like single-leg movements, and core strengthening exercises.

Circuit
A type of workout that involves moving through a series of exercise stations that targets multiple fitness areas. The stations may involve various activities such as weightlifting, bodyweight exercises, cardio exercises, resistance training, or functional movements.

Balance Circuit
A type of workout that involves moving through a series of exercise stations focusing on balance and coordination. These exercises may include standing on one leg, balancing on unstable surfaces such as balance beams or pads, performing agility drills, and engaging in core stability exercises.

Barre
Barre is a fitness method that blends ballet, Pilates and yoga to deliver a distinct and impactful workout. During a barre class, participants engage in exercises targeting various muscle groups like the legs, glutes, core, arms, and back. These exercises are often performed sequentially and designed to improve strength, flexibility, balance and posture.

Resistance bands
Resistance bands are elastic bands that provide resistance when stretched. They come in different levels of resistance, allowing for a wide range of exercises that can be used to work different muscle groups, including the arms, shoulders, chest, back, glutes and legs.

Spin
An indoor cycling workout that involves pedalling on stationary bikes with adjustable resistance to simulate various terrains and intensities. In a spin class, participants follow the instructor's guidance through cycling techniques such as sprints, hill climbs, intervals, and endurance rides. A spin class provides an excellent cardiovascular workout, helping to improve heart health and endurance.

Yoga
This class provides a holistic approach to physical and mental well-being through poses, breathing exercises, and meditation. Yoga improves flexibility, strength, balance, promotes relaxation and reduces stress.

*Please consult our never2old coordinator about further information on suitability to attend these classes.
