Referencing

The APA referencing style is commonly used at AUT University to format reference lists and in text citations in academic writing.  The style was updated in 2010 and is now in its 6th edition.

Art & Design
The School of Art & Design recommends their students use Kate L. Turabian’s Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations,7th ed.,  which includes two referencing styles: notes-bibliography style (or simply bibliography style) and parenthetical citations–reference list style (or author-date style). These styles are essentially the same as those presented in The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition, with slight modifications for the needs of student writers.

Bibliography style presents bibliographic information in footnotes or endnotes and, usually, a bibliography.

Author-date style cites sources briefly in parentheses in the text by author’s last name and date of publication; these citations are then amplified in a list of references, where full bibliographic information is provided.
