Mission Statement

The mission of the AUT University Library Information Literacy Programme is to provide the AUT community with the skills, capabilities and experience to identify, find, and evaluate information needed for both academic success and life-long learning.

To achieve this mission AUT University Library offers generic and curriculum-based information literacy programmes in a range of formats and at times to meet the users' needs.

The Library's Information Literacy Programme helps AUT University students and staff learn how to:

  • recognise a need for information and determine the nature and extent of the information needed
  • find needed information effectively and efficiently
  • critically evaluate information and the information seeking process
  • manage information collected or generated
  • apply prior and new information to construct new concepts or create new understandings
  • use information with understanding and acknowledge cultural, ethical, economic, legal and social issues surrounding the use of information1
Principles and Standards

The objectives of the Information Literacy Programme at AUT University Library are based on the ANZIIL Information Literacy Framework Principles, Standards and Practice. These were adopted by AUT University in 2006.
