Purpose
Gifts, donations and free subscriptions are accepted if they enhance existing collections or resources and if their content is relevant to taught courses, teaching and research.
Definition
Gifts, donations and free subscriptions are items or resources which are given or bequeathed with or without conditions and without charge. Resources acquired on ‘free disposal’ are considered to be donations.
Parameters
Gifts, donations and free subscriptions in any format are accepted. The policy statement, for the relevant item format or collection, guides the Library when accepting these items.
Back runs of serials will not be accepted unless the Library holds the title or intends to continue receiving the title, or their content fills a significant resource gap.
Procedure
The Associate University Librarian (Collection Services) has delegated authority to accept donations for inclusion into the Library. A letter is sent to the donor or benefactor, where appropriate, on behalf of the University Librarian.
Donations of serials are considered for binding when they are accepted.
