Social media community guidelines

Everyone is welcome to participate in our social media channels. With that in mind we've put together some guidelines to give you an idea of what is expected when you join the conversations there.

These guidelines are for everyone who wishes to participate in AUT University's social media channels – which at the moment are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+ and Pinterest – and also apply to all other social media websites that AUT is involved in.

If you participate in our social media communities then you agree to abide by these guidelines, and we thank you in advance for your contributions and for your help in creating a safe and vibrant online community!

If you have any questions or concerns about these guidelines, please email socialmedia@aut.ac.nz.

Community

Just like the offline world our social media communities are made up of many people who hold a vast range of views. So it's really important to respect one another and not use profanity or abuse other members and their opinions – we'll enforce this if we have to, in order to keep the communities welcoming for everyone.

Language

We embrace different cultures and nationalities within our social community, however as we are a New Zealand-based university we must ask that all comments and questions in our social networks are in either English or Te Reo Maori. This ensures that all members of our community can see and be a part of the conversation as well as helping us to provide you with a fast and friendly response.

Content moderation

To ensure our social media communities are kept friendly, we reserve the right to remove comments or posts that are racist, sexist, abusive, profane, violent, obscene or spam; that advocate illegal activity, include falsehoods, contain commercial solicitations, are wildly off-topic, or cannot be translated to English using free online tools; that libel, incite, threaten AUT University students, staff, guests or others. We also reserve the right to remove comments or posts that we feel are negative or offensive without notice. People who repeatedly violate these standards will be banned from the page or site and may also have their access to our communities removed, too.

Your confidentiality and privacy

For your safety and protection from identity theft, please don't post your personal contact details (such as phone number, address, email, student ID number, etc) on our social media channels. If you have questions specific to your study at AUT please either send it to us privately (i.e. a private message on Facebook, or direct message on Twitter) or get in touch with the student hub so we can help you quickly and privately.

Copyright

Content posted by AUT University should not be copied and published elsewhere without our prior permission. We require and expect that participants in our communities will not post copyrighted content to our social media channels without the prior permission of copyright holders. If you are a copyright holder and wish any material to be removed from our social media channels, please notify us at socialmedia@aut.ac.nz.
