Dear NZ Business Community
RE: Support required for Samoan Tsunami Relief Fund (Rebuilding)
Like many of us, I'm sure you are already aware of the devastation that has hit the coastal lands of Samoa and Pago Pago (American Samoa).
On the 13th October 2009, we have organised a New Zealand relief crew of 15 departing Auckland for Apia to aid Samoa Fire and Emergency Services. Our primary contact is:
SAMOA Fire and Emergency Services
Tipa Laupue (Assistant Commissioner)
Faleata Fire Station
Faleata, Samoa
Ph: + (685) 770 0999
A New Zealand relief program has been set up by NZ Oceania Building Consultants (Kitsetgo Pacific) in association with Panasonic NZ to work closely with Samoa Fire and Emergency Services (Government Agency).
We are looking to our local business network for support in the means of financial assistance and donated supplies and to help rebuild villages along the south coast of Upolu, Samoa.
A 40 foot container will be despatched from Auckland to Apia, Samoa at the end of October - early November pending fulfilment of container.
If you would like to join our current group of participating organisations; NZOBC, Panasonic and Ullrich Aluminium towards contributing, then we kindly ask for supplies such as non-perishable foods, bottled water, foam mattresses, sheets and pillows, cooking and eating utensils, tents and camping equipment, clothing/footwear, cleanliness hygiene products and all tools and building materials. Anything that we might have missed and that you feel may aid the people of Samoa would be greatly received. Furthermore, if you know of any other organisations that may also want to participate, then please forward our contact details.
Goods for supply donations can be faxed directly to the following:
Delivery Address:
Panasonic New Zealand 12 Beale Place, East Tamaki AUCKLAND
Att: Ramesh Soma
Ph: (09) 2720232
Fax: (09) 2720212
Mob: (021) 421602
We will then confirm your donation and arrange acceptance of your goods. Alternatively, if delivery is not possible we can organise collection of your supply goods.
To make a financial donation, please direct credit funds to the following bank account:
Kiwi bank: 38 – 9009 – 0734693 – 00
When depositing funds, please ensure that your personal/company name is used as the reference.
We greatly appreciate any forms of support towards this Relief Fund and give you full assurance that the support received will be distributed evenly as best to our capabilities, amongst those in this time of need.
We would also like to extend our financial relief services and gifts to the New Zealand victims and their families that have arrived back in New Zealand from Samoa. This will be directed through the NZ High Commission.
Yours sincerely,
Geoff Brown
Director
AUT has a large community of Samoan staff and students, many of whom will have friends, family and loved ones affected by the tsunami that struck the island nation this morning. Although reports are still coming in and details are scarce, it appears that there are many casualties and much destruction.
On behalf of AUT, I would like to offer a message of sympathy and support to those affected by the tsunami.
For those staff and students who are affected, there are a range of support services available. For advice and assistance, you can contact Pasifika Student Support Service on (09) 921 9892 or in person in WB239. Free counselling for students and staff is available through Health Counselling and Wellbeing - phone 921 9992.
