OPA sponsors student journalists at PIMA conference

10 postgraduate Communications students were given the opportunity to attend and report on a Pacific Islands Media Association conference, thanks to sponsorship from the Office of Pasifika Advancement.

The annual conference included DIY workshops, panel discussions and a keynote speech from Kalafi Moala, publisher and chief executive of Tonga’s Taimi Media Network.

PIMA has a long relationship with AUT, having offered two annual scholarships to Pasifika students wanting to study for a communications qualification for over 8 years.

Work produced by the 10 journalism students was published on Pacific Scoop, the news website produced by Associate Professor David Robie from AUT’s Pacific Media Centre.
