Mental health support: Student Advisor - Mental health

AT AUT we appreciate that our students come from diverse backgrounds with individual skills and life experiences. The Student Advisor - Mental Health offers support to AUT students to ensure their mental health needs are being met and students can achieve their academic goals.

The support for students can be ongoing or brief depending on the individual needs of the students. If a student identifies as having a mental health issue they can refer themselves to the service. A formal psychiatric diagnosis to access this service is not necessary.

The service students can expect

Students’ needs are assessed by the Student Advisor – Mental Health and an individual support plan is created. This individual support plan may involve:

  • Practical advice
  • Referral to counselling services
  • Liaison with external health providers or family (in collaboration and with the consent of the student)
  • Assessment and support in a crisis
  • Liaison with University staff (in collaboration and with the consent of the student)
