By becoming a Student Mentor you can make a big difference in a new student’s experience at AUT. You can also build on your own leadership and communication skills, and meet new people.
What is involved
As a postgraduate Student Mentor you will be assigned a group of new undergraduate AUT students at the start of each semester on Orientation Day. We endeavour to match you up with students from your programme of study. Postgraduate Student Mentors can also provide support to postgraduate students who register for a Mentor. Your responsibility is to keep in contact and support these students during their first semester. But don't worry! You won't be thrown into the deep end. Training will be given to all Student Mentors before the start of semester.
Being a Student Mentor takes a small amount of time but it can make a big difference! As a Student Mentor you are expected to commit approximately 20 hours each semester including:
- Attending two training sessions
- Attending one Orientation Day
- Maintaining regular contact with your group via email, phone and in person
For more information, please see the
Student Mentor Guidelines.
