Why should I attend?
We strongly recommend that you attend Orientation (except if you are an online or distance student). You will receive a lot of important information about your course at Orientation, especially from your programme leader session. Orientation is also a great way to meet people and make friends.
Our research has shown that students who attend Orientation do heaps better than those who don’t attend. It’s also a great day of fun and entertainment!
What else?
You don’t need to bring anything to Orientation; we even provide food for you. However, you might want to take a notepad and a backpack as you will probably be receiving a lot of important information, and a water bottle.
Orientation also provides a good opportunity to finalise any outstanding enrolment issues, so bring your student ID card (if you’ve received it) which will speed up queues if you need to see someone at the Student Information Centre on the day. This is a good practice to get into as well, as AUT requires students to carry their student ID card when on campus at all times.
Student Mentors
Student Mentors are experienced students who have been studying at AUT for at least two semesters. They volunteer their time to help new students settle in during their first semester at AUT University. Each Student Mentor is assigned a group of 10 to 15 first year students from their programme of study on Orientation Day. The guidance they provide continues throughout the semester.
