Other impairments

Disability Student Support recognises that those students with depression and other mental health issues, medical conditions, chronic illnesses or other impairment, may require additional help and resources while studying.

What support is available?

  • Advice and support with campus orientations
  • Resolving accessibility issues to classrooms and buildings
  • Support to discuss your individual needs with lecturers and academic departments
  • Alternative arrangements for assessments and examinations, e.g. extra time, readers/writers, use of computers
  • The use of technology to support independence
  • Assistance and strategies for accessing lecture content and notes, e.g. notes online, access to note-taking support
  • Help to manage unavoidable absences from class
  • Help to study papers on a part-time basis

An individual needs assessment interview will identify the help you need. The purpose is to determine what you need to maximise your capabilities and independence, to help you overcome barriers and to ensure you can participate fully according to your abilities, resources, culture and goals.
