Academic accommodations
The Disability Student Support service is not a diagnostic service. All students who receive academic accommodations have to verify their impairment and the impact it has on their learning. This has to be provided from a registered professional within the field of the student’s own impairment.
However, the Learning Support Lecturer within Learning Development and Success: Te Tari Āwhina, does provide advice, support and learning assessments for students who may know or suspect they have a specific learning disability.

The details of a student’s impairment are private and not shared with lecturers, faculties or other students in the class, unless the student has given permission to do so.

Informing lecturers of a student’s needs
We will ensure lecturers and faculties know what support individual student’s need and who is responsible for providing it - the student, faculty or our service. Once a student has been assessed, an Academic Accommodations memo is prepared detailing the required support. This is forwarded to the Programme Administrators and/or Leaders for circulation to all the relevant lecturers and staff.The details of a student’s impairment are private and not shared with lecturers, faculties or other students in the class, unless the student has given permission to do so.
