Common facilities and other details

Common facilities include a student lounge with pool table, table tennis and Sky TV, vending machines and a barbeque, and coin-operated laundry. All apartments, bedrooms and common areas are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted in the outdoor areas.

Bicycles

Bicycles may be taken into the building but not into apartment bedrooms. Storage cupboards or storage areas are available. Visit the Residential Services office for more information. It will be the bicycle owner’s responsibility to rectify any soiling of carpet and walls.

Car and motorcycle parking

There is no parking available on the premises for cars or motorbikes. Privately operated parking buildings are located in close proximity.

CCTV/Security cameras

The Wellesley Student Apartments complex has a number of security cameras operating throughout. All cameras are located in public areas and not inside apartments. Images from the cameras are recorded and stored for a specified period of time to allow for any necessary investigations.

Fire

WSA is equipped with a modern and sophisticated fire detection system, comprised of both sprinklers and sensitive early detection smoke sensors.

The smoke detectors will activate when steam, smoke, dust and aerosol sprays exceed the set point for each detector. The system is connected to the Fire Service who will attend to investigate the origin of the alarm. The system can detail the exact location, time and type of activation. If the activation is found to be caused through negligence, any charges will be passed onto the resident or apartment responsible.

Under our compliance certificate, we are required to conduct trial evacuations. All alarms must be treated as a real emergency. In the event of a fire alarm sounding, please observe notices and instructions from the accommodation staff and Fire Service officers. Mischievous activation of alarms is viewed seriously and the perpetrator(s) will be dealt with accordingly.

Every resident must read and sign the fire evacuation procedures at check-in.

Games room

The games room is available to all residents and their accompanied guests. It is located on the ground floor between the common and TV rooms. This space has table tennis and pool tables. The pool table is accessible between 7am and midnight, seven days. Vending machines are also located in this area.

Heaters

Wall heaters are located in each apartment. They can be operated on two different modes with several different temperature settings. Please contact Residential Services staff should you require assistance with their operation and setting. For safety reasons, gas heaters are not permitted inside our residence.

Internet access

All bedrooms have their own data port that allows connection via an external Internet Service Provider (ISP) and supplies a high speed broadband internet service. The contract for this service is between the resident and Orcon (www.orcon.net.nz).

In order to maintain response times, it is important that individual data usage is of a reasonable level. Orcon reserves the right to restrict or terminate access to internet services for individuals that overload the system through excessive use.

Security access tags

Upon arrival residents are issued with one security tag and a room key. Your room key unlocks your apartment door and your bedroom. Your security swipe tag allows you 24-hour access to the following areas:

•    Wellesley Student Apartments front door and gate
•    The elevators and floor that you live on (e.g. level 2, apartment 2C, building A).

Each time a tag is used at an entry point the transaction is stored for referencing should the need to investigate an event become necessary. To protect the integrity of our community’s security and safety, residents must immediately report any tag that is lost or stolen.

Telephones

Telephone connection points are provided in the bedroom of each apartment. It is the resident’s responsibility to organise connection of the phone line. Please contact the Residential Services office for more information about account set up.

Televisions

A television and remote control are supplied in each of the apartment lounges. The channels are pre-set by a master remote held by the office. The television must remain in the lounge. The main TV/video room in the common space has a large flat-screen television and Sky TV.
