Māori Learning Development Senior Lecturer
Messina’s work is aimed at improving tertiary education outcomes for Māori students at AUT. Messina provides study support assistance including tutorial sessions and one-to-one appointment and drop-in services, to encourage undergraduate and postgraduate Māori students to achieve at AUT.

Layne Waerea (BA, LLB, BVA)
Māori Learning Development Lecturer
Layne’s academic interests are in commercial law and the visual arts. Layne has been lecturing in the Business and Law School - on the First Year Integrated Programme and the Legal Executive course. Layne is currently completing postgraduate studies in the visual arts, exploring legal issues related to photographic imagery. Layne’s work focuses on assisting students to develop the necessary academic tools required for tertiary learning. Layne can assist with academic writing, expression of ideas and different ways of problem solving in a written or visual form.
