Counsellors
Counselling is a process of privately talking through anything that concerns you. A counsellor will listen to you sensitively, without judgement, and will try and see things from your point of view. AUT’s Health, Counselling and Wellbeing service has counsellors who identify as gay and lesbian. They can relate to and understand the issues surrounding ‘coming out’ to family and friends, and life as an LGBT student.

You are allowed to be gay in New Zealand, and Auckland is a diverse and colourful city. The Human Rights Act 1993 specifically outlaws discrimination in public life on the basis of sexual orientation (which includes transgender people).
If you choose to be sexually active in New Zealand, it is very important that you take steps to protect your health and that of your partner/s from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV. The team at the Health, Counselling and Wellbeing Centre are happy to talk to you about sexual health.
