AUT 2000–2010: read about some of our achievements

AUT became a university in 2000. We’ve had our fair share of achievements in that short time. Here are some of our milestones.

Graduate numbers

  • 23,000 from all degrees (undergraduate and postgraduate)
  • 110 PhDs and other doctorates (the first 6 years ago)

Student enrolments: full-time numbers

  • 10,000 increase in student enrolments to 19,000. This puts AUT in the top 4 New Zealand universities by size
  • 80% of annual enrolments in bachelors degrees or higher
  • Postgraduate annual enrolments climbed to 2000; includes 300 PhD students
  • International enrolments reached 2500 - 20% postgraduate, 70% bachelors degrees

Research outputs

  • Produced 8000 refereed journal articles and other peer-reviewed research outputs
  • Attracted $145m research-related income

Professional degrees

  • Introduced industry-accredited qualifications for:
    • Dental therapy and hygiene
    • Education
    • Engineering
    • Law
    • Midwifery
    • Podiatry

Campus and community

  • Increased from 2 to 4 campuses, with a new one in Manukau City and added a 2nd – the AUT Millennium Campus - in North Shore City
  • Launched secondary school programmes – such as prefects training and sports-based ones – to inspire students to think about university study and careers
