Driving to AUT

Driving to AUT might seem convenient, but both campuses only have very limited parking available.

Because of the high demand for parking in the central city, AUT is not able to provide on-site parking for city-based students during the day. Parking in the city usually costs from $8 to $16 a day.

Driving is also the most expensive and polluting form of travel. Every day, Auckland vehicles release 820 TONNES of carbon dioxide into the environment (the same weight as 135 elephants).

Before you reach for the car keys, ask:

  • Could I walk (6% of car trips to AUT are from distance of 2km or less)
  • Where is my nearest train station? Bus stop? (Check out the MAXX journey planner for public transport advice)
  • When was the last time I rode a bike?
  • Can I give someone else a ride?

Park And Ride

'Park and ride' is a good option for students who live on the North Shore and study at the City Campus.

Parking is available at the Poenamo Hotel (see 'North Shore student parking', below) for students taking the AUT Shuttle Bus. Park and ride is also available at Constellation and Albany for students taking the Northern Express Bus Service.

For students in other parts of Auckland, park and ride is also available at the Panmure, Glen Innes, Meadowbank and Orakei train stations.

Car Pooling

If you must drive a car, try car-pooling with another student that lives in your area. You get to share petrol costs and the more people in the car, the less cars on the road!
